Winter is Coming

It is really cold here today.  I'm not sure what your ide of cold is but I stop being comfortable around 22 degrees.  After 22 degrees I have to zip up my coat and get on gloves if I am going to be outside for long.  22 is my magic number.   At 15 degrees I think about really considering alternatives to going outside.  At 15 degrees I might actually skip a meal if there is no food in the house.

This morning it was 1 degree outside with a real feel of negative 17 or something.   When I was younger it wasn't called a real feel.  We called it a wind chill.  That made sense.  It was self explainitory.  The wind was blowing and it made it feel colder than it actually was.  Turns out that's not really true either.

I have learned since that a water bottle stored at 33 degrees will not freeze.   Same water bottle stored at 33 degrees and in a cool wind with wind chill will freeze. Solid.  I thought that wind chill or real feel was some thing that just "felt" colder than it actually was.  But it's really just 33 degrees outside.  The thermometer said so.   So when did the bottle become self aware and freeze over night?

Lets be be honest with every one.   It's just really freaking cold outside.   I get it.  Once it passes 22 degrees I stopped caring anyhow.  Winter is coming though.  The Starks are right.  But they got the colors all wrong.

Its 1 degree outside.  It is just cold now.  There is about an inch of snow on the ground.  As I drive to work there are vehicles randomly pulled off the road and abandoned.   From time to time you can observe a second or third vehicle drive off the road and park.  Sometimes they'll park next to another vehicle.  Sometimes several miles away.

When the driver parks the car the drive exits the vehicle and wanders aimlessly and slowly away from the vehicle I think they just gave up.  They must have wandered into the dark night and into the woods to die.  It is that cold.
